Is climate control worth it for storage?
Yes, absolutely. especially given the humid and hot weather here in Central Florida. While standard drive-up units are excellent for tools, lawn equipment, or vehicles, climate control is an investment in the longevity of your sensitive items.It is worth the upgrade if you are storing:
- Electronics: Computers, TVs, and gaming consoles can be damaged by extreme heat.
- Wood or Leather Furniture: Humidity can cause wood to warp and leather to crack or mildew.
- Clothing and Fabric: Prevents mold and musty odors.
- Paper Documents and Photos: Prevents yellowing and sticking.
What is the difference between heated storage and climate control?
It often comes down to humidity versus temperature:
- Heated Storage: This is typically found in colder northern climates. It simply warms the unit to prevent pipes from freezing or liquids from cracking, but it does not cool the unit or actively manage moisture.
- Climate Control (What we recommend in FL): This system uses HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) to maintain a steady temperature range (usually between 55°F and 80°F) year-round.
